Do Not Kill Yourself On A Wave Board Posted By: Josh Brennon

Safety is an important part of any extreme sport. Riding safe and riding smart go hand in hand. You enjoy the wave board, but if you fall and crack your head open because you think a helmet looks goofy, you can no longer enjoy riding for quite some time. Safely riding the wave board is no different then enjoying any other extreme sport in a safe and fun way, it really comes down to common sense. Learn how to ride the board comfortably before attempting any crazy tricks or ramps, wear the necessary safety equipment, especially a helmet, and take it slow, do not rush do try something that is out of your skill level. If you are a beginner on the wave board the best way to learn is have a friend who can help you balance while you get the feel of the board. This way if you fall your buddy will be there to stop you from hitting the pavement. Also starting on a very slight decline, this helps keep the wave board moving and allows you to balance much better. Once you get the hang of it you can start attempting some tricks.

What Is The Difference Between A Wave Board And A Ripstick Posted By: Josh Brennon

What is the difference between the Ripstik and the Wave Board? The Ripstik and the Wave Board are very similar, but at the same time quite different boards. The most obvious difference is the look of the board, but there is more then that. There are also many similarities, which we will explore as well. First let us discuss the similarities of the boards. They are both designed to propel the rider forward without ever needing to touch the ground. The riding style is often the same as well as the movement in your hips and shoulders to get the board moving. Both of the boards are made from the same durable plastic, torsion bar and the riding concept is the same. Both boards have removable and replicable decks so if you get sick of the color or design that you have then you can switch it up. Both boards also have different colored wheels that are also interchangeable. Now the differences are going to be why you choose to ride the Ripstik or the Wave Board. The Ripstik and Wave Board look very different, that is the first and most obvious difference.

The Ripstick Will Hurt You Posted By: Josh Brennon

The most important thing about riding your Ripstik is having fun. If you did not have fun on your board you would not tell your friends about it and the Ripstik would go out of business. The second most important thing about riding is safety. The only thing riding safe does for you on the Ripstik is keeps you riding. If you were to fall off your ripstik and hit your head without a helmet the damage could be so great that you may not be able to ride for a long time. If you have a helmet on you may have a head ache but you are back riding your board, if not the same day, the very next day. The extreme sport movement has set a good standard showing every professional athlete at say a popular event like the X-Games wearing helmets. Helmets are not nerdy or dumb to wear, it is smart. Just look at the pros, they all wear one and I bet each one of them have their own stories of the time they hit their head, but thankfully had a helmet on. How much more damage would have been done without a helmet.

The Ripstick Is Weird Posted By: Josh Brennon

The Ripstik is the board with the crazy style of riding. Your feet do not have to touch the ground to move; you can ride very fast, but stay balanced when riding very slow. You can turn on a dime or carve down a hill like you are on the slopes. You can ride them up hill with ease; ride them on sidewalks or in a garage. You can race them, bust out some insane freestyle tricks or ride ramps, even get a group of riders together and play team sports on them. Possibilities are endless and the fun never stops. I have seen a lot of skaters that are very skeptical. They just need to try riding one. They are tons of fun to ride and get friends together who all have the Ripstik. Imagine snowboarding on the street, but you have the ability to go anywhere you want, up or down. Now add the agility of roller blades, turning and moving with ease and balance, that is how the Ripstik feels. If you have not tried one you need to find a friend who has one or get one for yourself.

Ripstik Colors Are Ugly. Posted By: Josh Brennon

Ripsticks come in many different colors and styles to ride. There are the classic ripstick boards, ripsticks for the kids called ripsters, ripsticks made for grinding, and professional versions of the boards. All of these ripsticks are available in different colors, and have wheels available in different colors as well. You have the opportunity to mix and match colorful deck plates with different colored wheels. There are tons of options and a lot of cool looking combinations you can do with all the boards. The classic ripstick is the most popular of all the boards. It comes in five colors which can be changed and mixed and matched. The deck plates are what have the color and they can be taken off and replaced or mixed. The colors they come in are silver, blue, green, red, and pink. You can have the deck plates the same color or mix them up and try a pink one and a green one or a blue and silver, pretty much anything you want. They also have all five colors of wheels. If you wanted to get crazy you could put one green wheel, one blue wheel, one silver deck, and one pink deck.

The Classic Ripstick Is Not Good Enough Posted By: Josh Brennon

The Ripstik Deluxe DLX is the best caster board to date. The DLX is the professional version of the standard Ripstik. The DLX takes caster boards to the next level, the professional level. The new board includes some incredible new features that will make your riding experience much better. Some of these improvements are a spinning aluminum torsion bar, lighter weight and ABEC-7 bearings. You can ride faster, farther, more smooth and do more tricks then ever before with the new Ripstik DLX. The greatest new feature I want to talk about first and that is the spinning aluminum torsion bar. Not only can you bust out all your old tricks but now you can grind on rails and curbs as smooth as butter, because the torsion bar spins. It no longer matters if it is a waxed steal grind bar or a bumpy sidewalk curb, the rolling torsion bar is smooth and takes your tricks to the next level. If you catch a small decline there is no saying how far you can grind with the new design. You are not going to slow down as quickly so you can rail slide further.

Wave Board Advanced Tricks Posted By: Josh Brennon

I hope you have had a chance to read my article on beginner to intermediate tricks. Now I am going to talk about the intermediate to advanced tricks. First intermediate trick to try is an ollie. To do an ollie bend your knees then shift your weight to the back foot and push down on the back lip of the board to pop the front of the board in the air. Then slide your front foot forward and shift your weight forward, this will pop the back of your board off the ground. Now go for an acid drop. This is when you find a ledge, like a curb or drop of some sort, approach the ledge straight on, then lift your front wheel off the ground just before you cross over the ledge and ride a manual until you drop off the ledge. Land and try to keep your balance. That is an acid drop. When you get comfortable try doing an ollie acid drop. Approach the curb and instead of doing a manual over the curb do an ollie off the curb. When you get good enough you can try doing an ollie up onto the curb.

Awesome Ripstick Design Posted By: Josh Brennon

The Ripstik is a board that is designed very differently then any board you have seen on the market. The board has only two wheels, which rotate 360 degrees. The wheels are placed underneath two decks connected together by a spring loaded rotating bar. The decks twist opposite of each other to create the motion needed to move forward. This is why you can be propelled without your feet touching the ground. Ripstik wheels are designed to be able to ride for a long time. A typical wheel would wear down extremely fast on the Ripstik because the ride never steps off the board when riding. With the contour wheel design the Ripstik wheels last longer. The wheels are sized at 76mm and 85A, and the bearings are ABEC5. The Ripstik wheels keep you riding longer before you need to change them. The decks are made out of high quality and very strong ABS plastic. You can ride you board for a long time before you will notice a difference in riding ability. Although the board is slightly heavier then most board types, it really has less effect with this board when cruise the streets.

Learn Wave Board Tricks Posted By: Josh Brennon

There are tons of awesome freestyle tricks that you can do on the wave board. I am going to share with you some of the most popular tricks, from beginner to intermediate. Let us start with some of the easier tricks. One of the easiest tricks I know is the step over. Place a skinny object like a broom stick or a small piece of wood on the ground, ride your waveboard directly to the stick, when your first wheel gets close to the stick lift your front wheel over the stick then immediately lift your back wheel over the stick to complete the trick. To lift the front or back wheel you need to place your feet on the curve of the tail and nose and put more weight on the opposite side then the wheel you want to lift off the ground; so to lift the front wheel push down and put more weight on the back lip. This trick will lead you to the manual and the nose manual. On each of these tricks you lift a wheel off the ground and try to ride on one wheel as long as possible.

Games To Play On The Ripstick Posted By: Josh Brennon

The Ripstik is a versatile board that allows you to do many things. You can cruise the streets and you can do freestyle tricks, but you can also do some great individual and team games on the Ripstik. I want to share some of my favorite Ripstik games with you. First let us talk about the solo games. Not solo games to do by yourself, but it is you against your buddies. Racing is always a classic. When you race be creative and come up with parts of the race that you must do, like figure eights around two garbage can lids, or a part where you have to step your board over a broom stick, or perhaps a part of the course that is only skinny enough for one person to fit through. Racing has endless possibilities to keep you and your friends having fun for hours. I also love to do the sprint race. This is just a straight lined race from point A to point B to see who the fastest rider is. To turn your racing into a team game, just make it into a relay race.

The Wave Board - How It Works Posted By: Josh Brennon

The wave board as a very unique a different design then most boards on the market. The board only has two wheels, which are free to rotate an entire 360 degrees, located under two separate decks that are connected by a spring loaded torsion bar. The decks are able to twist opposite of each other. It is this technology that allows the board to be propelled without your feet ever needing to touch the ground. The wheels are sized at 77mm and 85A, and the bearings are ABEC5. Waveboard wheels are designed to take the wear and tear of continual use. Your feet never have to touch the ground when riding and because of this any wheels would wear down much faster. The waveboard wheels keep you riding longer before you need to change them. The 360 degree rotating wheels connect to the decks which are made out of high quality and very strong ABS plastic. ABS plastic was used because of the strength it has. The board can take a lot of wear and tear before it will ever break.

Working Out With The Ripstick Posted By: Josh Brennon

Are you sick of not having fun when you workout? Do you need something exciting, challenging and fun that is also effective? For many people working out is a drag, and a most of the time they are right. It is hard work, generally not that fun, and most of the time just involves the same thing over and over. The Ripstik is the answer that provides an exciting and fun low key workout. Although the Ripstik was created as a toy for kids, if used correctly it can be a fun and effective workout. In order to propel the board forward you must move your legs, hips and core of your body in a rotating way. This movement allows for a great leg workout, great abdominal workout, as well as a great cardio workout. First you must start by learning how to ride the Ripstik. Start by putting your front foot on the Ripstik. Push off with your other foot and immediately put your other foot on the board. You must move the front of the board in an S shape by moving your legs and hips from side to side.

Ripstick - Riding Ramps Posted By: Josh Brennon

The Ripstik can be ridden in many areas. You can ride them on the street, on sidewalks, in parking lots, and you can also ride them at your locate skate park with ramps. The ripstik is a very fun board to ride on ramps. You can drop in off the ramps and do some awesome tricks. There are a couple things to remember when learning to ride your board at the street park. Always remember to start small, watch out for others, wear your helmet and pads, and have fun. Starting small means that you should not go try the largest ramp right at the beginning. Find a small ramp off to the side that is not that steep and begin practicing on that. It is often good to start on ramps with less people so that you do not run into anyone. Once you feel comfortable on the small ramp you can move up to bigger and steeper ramps. When I was learning on my Ripstik I would try starting half way up the big ramps until I got real comfortable. You will catch on quick.

Skateboarding - The Most Extreme Sport. Posted By: Josh Brennon

There is nothing that is more extreme then the sport of skateboarding. Skateboarding started out by simply nailing rolling skate wheels to a plank of wood and has since evolved into a worldwide phenomenon and recognized extreme sport. Skateboarding has gone through a lot to get to the point it is at now but that discussion is for a different article. Here I want to talk about why skateboarding is so extreme and so popular. Skateboarding takes a kind of athlete that very few sports require. Balance, strength, intuition, guts, skill and a natural ability are just a small sample of what a person needs to become a great skateboarder. The skateboarders of today are quite possibly the most talented athletes in the world. When you compare the difficulty, danger, skill level, variety and competition of the sport it is really not hard to see why. There are also a number of avenues that the sport of skateboarding has been down that solidified it as an extreme sport, avenues like the X Games and the Gravity Games. When you think of an athlete you generally think of a football, baseball or basketball player.
